While you no longer need to prove knowledge of Morse Code to get an amateur radio (ham) license in most countries, it is still quite alive. Morse Code is ON or OFF meaning that it can be sent by a flashlight, buzzer, bell, or by turning a radio transmitter on or off. Unlike every other method of radio communications today, a radio capable of transmitting and receiving Morse Code can be built by almost anyone with basic electronics skills. It doesn’t need RAM, ROM, or flash memory. In an emergency situation, Morse code almost always gets through even when no other method can. Google is celebrating today with this image:
